Announcing Mispronouncing
Ever have off days when it comes to speaking? Days when you have to get a lot done, but for some reason, the basic things aren’t going your way? This can be anytime you are presenting, but, in my case, it’s when I’m creating videos, and for some reason I’m not pausing long enough to make editing easier between mistakes, or I am messing up easy words.
Or this is the best one – when my teleprompter is just at the wrong speed no matter how many times I adjust it. I either end up looking too far above, talking too fast, hence stumbling, or looking too far below, making annoying pauses or dragging out certain words so that I can wait for the end of the sentence while the teleprompter catches up.
What cracks me up, well, in reality, frustrates me, but I have to laugh, right, is when there is a quick disconnect between my eye and my mouth. For example, when I just forget how to pronounce basic words in my native tongue. In this case, it’s English (obviously), and recently, that was the word “taxis.” I looked at it and my mouth said, “she had to take taaxiiss,” as in “axis.” Huh? Sigh. Start over. Or how about “infinite?” I have read and spitted out, “in-fiineiite,” or something equally egregious. How about when your client’s name consists of the word, “behavioural,” with the British spelling? Just try saying that word multiple times in the same sentence, multiple times in a video, and trying to act like you actually do work for them!
Aah, the life of a video spokesperson! Sayonara! At least I said that one right as I typed it! Good thing I speak Spanish and Italian as backups when I am failing in English! 🙂 Ciao!
